A cement manufacturer contracted EBS Advisory to report on their developmental impacts in their Kenyan operations. The reporting process included the measurement of both company level ESG value creation as well as the benefits created for surrounding communities.
The company provided EBS with data on the investments of staff wellbeing, this included the running of clinics, launch of specialist health care facilities (renal and oncology) and roll out of comprehensive health insurance to staff and immediate family.
A drive to promote gender equality in a traditionally male dominated industry took the form of provision of bursaries, internship programs aimed at promoting woman in the workplace and tailored mentorship programs aimed at fast tracking the promotion of female staff members into management positions.
Key community outreach programs included the extension of health care provision, the promotion of eco-tourism activities on rehabilitated land parcels and the introduction of scholars and tourists to conservation management.
Bespoke programs targeted at SMMEs in the supply chain further aimed to promote improved levels of business acumen and labour relations.
The report included insights on how the company can monitor and measure impact indicators in the future. The Impact report developed by EBS was used to articulate the company’s commitment to sustainability gain access to emerging development finance institutions, who are increasingly influential in the investment landscape of Kenya.
